Obituary for Edward J. McBride

Edward J. McBride, suddenly on June 5, 2017. President of the EOM Athletic Assn., former president of the S.E. Catholic/Sts. Neumann & Goretti Millay Club, board member of Quaker City String Band, Whitman Council member and IBEW Local 98 retiree. Proud Irishman who truly loved life and exemplified all that is good in this world. Beloved husband to the late Eleanor (nee: Cassidy). Loving father of the Honorable Edward J. (Betsy), Daniel (Kathy) and Gregory (Jacqui) and his 4th son Reese Hartey. Loving grandfather of Kevin, Michael, Helena, Meaghan and granddog Pippa. Brother to Joey (Marianne) and loving companion of Rosemary “Mimi” McKenna-Gault. Also, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends especially his dear neighbor Rose Hartey. Relatives, friends and members of the above-mentioned organizations are invited to his visitation Thursday eve 5-9pm and again on Friday 8-9:30am at EOM’s Edward J. McBride Athletic Complex (138 Moore St. Phila. 19148). Funeral Mass, 10:30am Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Int. SS: Peter & Paul Cem. Donation can be made to EOM AA.

He was a pillar of every community he entered. The first and only President of EOM, a dedicated member of Mt. Carmel Parish council, an officer of the Millay Club for decades, an Executive Board Member of the Whitman Community Council, chairman of too numerous to count charitable organizations. A mentor to countless young people. The finest example of how a true Christian gentleman should live , work and play.

Carmel Parish council, an officer of the Millay Club for decades, an  Executive Board Member of the Whitman Community Council, chairman of too numerous to count charitable organizations, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. A mentor to countless young people. The finest example of how a true Christian gentlemen should live, work and play. The news of his passing leaves a huge void in our community. A void that we can all help to fill a little bit by dedicating ourselves to those institutions, organizations and people we care so deeply about.
